Brown to the Premier: Call a Public Inquiry!

QUEEN’S PARK – Yesterday it was revealed that the Ontario Liberal Party has received at least $400,000 in donations from companies that have received grants from the Liberal Government. Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown used today’s Question Period to renew his calls for a public inquiry into the allegations of government contracts, grants, and contributions being awarded to corporations and other entities that made donations to the governing party.

“The donations come both before and after companies received grants from the Liberal government,” said Brown. “This raises questions that can only be answered by a public inquiry.”

Since 2004, the Liberal Government has handed out $1.45-billion in government grants and interest-free loans – 80 per cent of which was given out via non-publically advertised processes. The Auditor General revealed that the Ministry of Economic Development has made no attempt to measure the economic impact of these grants.

“That certainly raises some questions that demand answers,” added Brown. “Can the Premier explain why it is so difficult to provide the people of Ontario with a list of companies that receive tax dollars? If she has nothing to hide, why is she hiding it?”

“Call a Public Inquiry!”
