Connecting People to Places and Jobs

Getting shovels in the ground on subway projects in the GTA

Our PC Government recognizes that people across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) count on reliable and seamless transit to get them where they want to go safely and quickly.

That’s why we are making progress on priority transit projects in the GTA. Today, our PC government announced that it would get shovels in the ground on the first phase of construction and tunneling work for two priority transit projects ― the three-stop Scarborough Subway Extension and the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension.

“These subway projects in Scarborough and along Eglinton will strengthen our transit network and better connect us as a world-class province, region, and city,” said Caroline Mulroney, MPP for York-Simcoe and Minister for Transportation.

The Scarborough subway extension will finally deliver the three-stop subway connectivity that residents of Scarborough deserve. The Eglinton Crosstown West extension will improve connectivity along Eglinton Avenue, including a planned future connection to Toronto Pearson International Airport. Moving forward with tunnelling on Scarborough and Eglinton West marks significant progress for our PC Government’s plan to build a modern, efficient rapid transit system that provides benefits for all transit riders and taxpayers.

These projects will deliver subway connectivity to new neighbourhoods, reduce gridlock and emissions, and make it easier to get around the GTA region.
