Creating Jobs in the North

New Côté Gold Mine in Northern Ontario will create hundreds of jobs and promote economic growth

Bringing jobs to every corner of this province is a top priority for our PC government.

Today, we are breaking ground on Ontario’s future with construction beginning on the new Côté Gold Mine in Northern Ontario.

During construction, this project will employ over 1,000 workers and generate business for hundreds of local mining supply and services companies. And once built, this mine will create 450 good-paying jobs, generate more than $5 billion in wages, and contribute $10 billion to Ontario’s gross domestic product over the mine’s 18-year life span.

“Mining is a key driver of our provincial economy and our government is proud to support Ontario’s world-class mining industry,” said Greg Rickford, MPP for Kenora-Rainy River and Minister of Energy, Northern Development. “The opening of the Côté Gold Mine will propel economic recovery forward in the region, once again signalling to the world that Northern Ontario is open for business, jobs and investment.”

After years of delay, decline, and neglect, our PC government has been able to work with the mining sector to breathe new life and attract new investments. This mine is a prime example of how our PC government is helping businesses grow and create jobs by cutting red tape and removing regulatory roadblocks, without cost to taxpayers.
