Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs Welcome Support from the Ontario Professional Firefighters Association

OPFFA’s first-ever endorsement for Ontario PCs driven by the party’s strong commitment to supporting Ontario’s frontline heroes

TORONTO, February 3, 2025 — Today, Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs welcomed an endorsement from the Ontario Professional Firefighters Association (OPFFA). This is OPFFA’s first-ever endorsement of the Ontario PCs and reflects the PCs’ unwavering support for Ontario’s firefighters and fire investigators who sacrifice daily to keep our communities safe.

“I am honoured to have the support of Greg Horton and the more than 12,000 brave men and women who belong to the OPFFA,” said Doug Ford. “Ontario’s first responders have our backs when we need them most and we will always have their backs. The OPFFA has been a tremendous partner to our government, and we’ll continue to ensure our firefighters have the training, tools and resources they need.”

“Premier Ford and his government have been steadfast, active partners in addressing firefighter issues,” said Greg Horton, OPFFA President. “We’ve worked shoulder-to-shoulder on critical initiatives to ensure the safety and well-being of firefighters as well as fire and life safety in communities across Ontario. Their support has been instrumental in securing necessary protections and resources, and we look forward to continuing the work of improving the lives of those who serve and protect our communities. The Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association is proud to endorse Doug Ford and his leadership of the Ontario Progressive Conservatives in the upcoming election.”

The PC government has invested significantly to support Ontario’s firefighters, fire investigators and volunteers, including the following:

  • Investing over $10 million to build five new state-of-the-art training facilities and train thousands of firefighters for in-demand fire and rescue services careers.
  • Building Canada’s first dedicated Post-Traumatic Stress Injury Treatment Centres for First Responders at two new Runnymede Healthcare Centre locations in the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Expanding presumptive coverage for firefighters with primary-site kidney cancer by reducing the required duration of service from 20 to 10 years, the lowest in Canada.
  • Expanding presumptive occupational cancer coverage for firefighters and fire investigators to include primary site thyroid and pancreatic cancers.
  • Reducing the required duration of service for primary-site esophageal cancer from 25 years to 15 years, the lowest in Canada.
  • Including wildland firefighters and investigators under the same presumptive coverage for occupational cancers, heart injuries and PTSD as municipal firefighters and reducing the required duration of service for primary-site skin cancer from 15 to 10 years, which is the lowest requirement in Canada.

Only Doug Ford has a plan to protect Ontario:

  • Building Ontario’s economy by investing more than $200 billion in our plan to build roads, highways, transit and other infrastructure projects while investing over $2.5 billion to train more than a million people for better jobs and bigger paycheques in the skilled trades.
  • Protecting workers in the face of President Trump’s tariffs by doing whatever is necessary to protect people’s livelihoods, including by investing tens of billions of dollars to keep people working.
  • Keeping us competitive by fighting the job-killing Liberal carbon tax and urging the federal government to cut red tape and streamline approvals to get big things built. ● Cleaning up our streets by protecting families and children by banning drug injection sites near schools and daycares and clearing out encampments from public parks with new investments in shelters.
  • Delivering better care, including by investing $1.8 billion more to connect everyone in Ontario to a family doctor and primary care.

Doug Ford will never stop working to protect Ontario.
