ERIC LINDROS CALLS ON LEGISLATURE TO PASS ROWAN’S LAW

QUEEN’S PARK – Eric Lindros today joined Nepean-Carleton MPP Lisa MacLeod to call on the Ontario Legislature to pass Rowan’s Law.  If passed, Rowan’s Law would be the first concussion legislation in Canada.

“Timing is everything and right now we need to pass Rowan’s Law so we have consistency in protocols, treatment and awareness,” said Lindros, who suffered multiple concussions during his NHL career and has dedicated time and money to concussion research at Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine.

MacLeod was honoured to receive the boost to her Private Members’ Bill that calls on the Ontario Legislature to implement the recommendations of the Coroner’s Inquest into Rowan Stringer’s death from Second Impact Syndrome.

“Eric’s support brings much needed attention to the importance of concussion legislation in Canada and the need for a centralizing role in concussion treatment and awareness,” added MacLeod.

Presently Rowan’s Law has been stalled in Committee.  In 2012 a similar bill was introduced by the Liberal Government, only for it to die when former Premier Dalton McGuinty prorogued the Legislature.

Rowan’s Law received all-party support at Second Reading and is being co-sponsored by NDP MPP Catherine Fife and Liberal MPP John Fraser.
