Expanding Broadband and Cellular Access

Historic investment will provide more people across the province with reliable, high-speed internet and cell service during COVID-19 and beyond

During these unprecedented times, it’s important to provide the people of Ontario with better ways to connect, to work, to learn, to see your doctor, and to stay in touch.

Today, our PC government took an important step towards achieving our vision of every home, business, and farm in Ontario having access to reliable, high-speed internet and cell service by announcing an historic investment of almost $1 billion to improve broadband and cellular access across Ontario.

“By providing high-speed broadband to unserved and underserved communities like Minden Hills, we will create good jobs, unlock new opportunities for businesses and people, and improve the quality of life for individuals and families,” said Doug Ford, MPP for Etobicoke North and Premier of Ontario. “With the world online these days, if we are going to attract more investment to Ontario and compete in this highly competitive global marketplace, we need every part of our province connected with high-speed Internet.”

This investment builds on our initial $315 million-dollar commitment in shovel-ready broadband projects by investing an additional $680 million in the upcoming 2020 Ontario budget. It will help build up communities across Ontario with more economic development and provide more opportunities for young people and for businesses to grow.

For Ontario to recover, we need strong, sustained economic growth. This investment takes action to remove long-standing, structural barriers to Ontario’s economic growth.
