Government Must Walk the Talk on Ring of Fire

QUEEN’S PARK – This morning during Question Period, the Official Opposition pressed the Minister of Northern Development and Mines to take real action towards developing the Ring of Fire.

“It will take more than continued talk by this government to develop the Ring of Fire,” stated Norm Miller, PC Critic for Northern Development and Mines and Aboriginal Affairs.  “If that were the case, we would already have the 5,500 jobs per year that the Ontario Chamber of Commerce estimates will be created by the project.”

Miller was referring to the fact that the only mention of the Ring of Fire in the 2016 Provincial Budget was simply a re-announcement of infrastructure funds first committed in 2014.

“The same page has essentially been copied and pasted in each of the last three provincial budgets, and not a dollar of that promise has gone toward building infrastructure in the region,” added Miller.

“We have seen enough missed deadlines, delays, and re-announcements from the Provincial Government – it is time for this government to walk the talk and get the Ring of Fire development moving again,” concluded Miller.
