Helping Tourism, Culture, Sport and Recreation Organizations Recover
New grant program will help those who are struggling during COVID-19
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our PC government has committed to be there to support those struggling the most.
That’s why we are launching the $105-million Community Building Fund that will, over the next two years, support non-profit tourism, culture, sport, and recreation organizations – all of which are facing significant pressures due to the pandemic.
“Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our government has been fulfilling a commitment to be there to support those struggling the most,” said Lisa MacLeod, MPP for Nepean and Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries. “Today’s investment is a critical part of our plan to support the economic and social recovery of communities across Ontario. The Community Building Fund is helping organizations whose programs and services enhance the quality of life for Ontarians and support local jobs across the province.”
The fund will be administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and help non-profit organizations, such as museums, theatres, attractions, sport and recreation organizations and cultural institutions, sustain operations in the short term, while helping municipalities, Indigenous communities, non-profits, and recreation organizations invest in sport and recreation infrastructure.
This fund will help local communities through two program streams:
- The $55-million operating funding stream will provide support to community arts and culture, heritage, tourism, sport and recreation non-profits and Indigenous communities that will help sustain their operations and create new attractions, experiences, and events in their communities. Applications for this stream will open on March 31, 2021.
- The $50-million capital funding stream will provide support to municipalities, Indigenous communities, and non-profit organizations for sport- and recreation-facility infrastructure repairs, including retrofits and rehabilitation to meet COVID-19 public health protocol requirements and local community needs. This stream will open later in 2021.
This investment will provide grants to help eligible municipalities, Indigenous communities and non-profit organizations respond to new challenges – empowering them to adapt and work more efficiently and effectively.
