Hydro One Executive Salaries out of Line with the Rest of Canada, while Ontarians Struggle to Pay Electricity Bills

QUEEN’S PARK – Today during Question Period, Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown asked Premier Wynne why her Liberal Government is paying Hydro One executives lavish salaries, while average Ontario families cannot afford to pay their hydro bills.

“Hydro One executive pay is out of line with the rest of Canada,” said Leader Patrick Brown.  “The combined salaries of 6 hydro executives in 4 provinces are still less than the $4 million being paid to the new Hydro One CEO.  Why didn’t the Premier set limits on Hydro One salaries when so many people in Ontario are struggling to pay their hydro bills?”

In British Columbia the combined compensation of the top three highest paid energy executives is under $2 million a year; however, in Ontario the Premier agreed to pay the new Hydro One CEO $4 million a year.

“In British Columbia, hydro bills are half of what they are in Ontario,” added Leader Patrick Brown.  “British Columbia’s Liberal government isn’t forcing seniors to choose between heating and eating.  Hydro One’s new multi-million executive salaries will have to be paid for through higher and higher hydro bills.  Why is the Premier making life more and more unaffordable for the people of Ontario just so she can dish out lavish paycheques to Hydro One executives?”
