Investing in Hospital Infrastructure

$175 million investment to address critical hospital upgrades, repairs and maintenance will ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients

Maintaining hospital infrastructure is one example of how our PC government is ensuring that Ontarians have access to health care services they can depend on, especially during these unprecedented times.

To that end, our government is investing $175 million this year to address critical hospital upgrades, repairs and maintenance, including $50 million for COVID-19 related and urgent projects. This funding will help 129 hospitals across the province maintain their infrastructure and ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients to receive care.

This investment will help hospitals address urgent issues such as upgrades or replacement of roofs, windows, security systems, backup generators and fire alarms. Projects such as updating HVAC systems to enhance patient and staff safety, creating additional isolation space and negative air pressure flow rooms to increase capacity and enhancing infection prevention and control measures, will also support hospitals in their ongoing response to COVID-19.

Ongoing investments to support these essential infrastructure projects can make a big difference to a patient’s experience and is part of our PC government’s plan to build the capacity needed to end hallway health care.

We will continue to invest in patients and the health care system to ensure Ontarians receive the care and services they need and deserve now and for generations to come.
