Keeping Energy Costs Low
Providing greater customer choice, stable rates, and financial support for residential customers, farmers, and small businesses
Our PC government continues to support Ontario’s electricity consumers as we respond to COVID-19 by providing customer choice, stable rates, and financial support to the millions of Ontarians who are working and learning from home.
To that end, today we announced a suite of energy initiatives to support residential customers, farmers, and small businesses, including:
- Keeping electricity bills low, by providing a 33.2% reduction for customers eligible for the Ontario Energy Rebate (OER) on their energy bill when new electricity rates for Regulated Price Plan (RPP) customers come into effect November 1, 2020.
- As of November 1st, customers who pay time-of-use (TOU) electricity rates will have the flexibility to choose an electricity bill structure that best suits their lifestyle, choosing between TOU and tiered rates (flat rate).
- Expanding the eligibility requirements for the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) and the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program for Small Business (CEAP-SB), to offer greater support for electricity customers struggling to pay their bills during COVID-19.
We also announced that beginning the week of January 4th, 2021, we will be launching the new Energy Affordability Program (EAP) to help households who are struggling with their home electricity bills with energy efficiency upgrades.
These initiatives will help ensure Ontario families and businesses can manage their electricity bills, while keeping our energy system strong and reliable.
