Keeping Ontario Moving

Widening Highway 401 in the Cambridge Area

Our PC government is committed to reducing congestion, improving outdated infrastructure, and making life easier for families and businesses by delivering on transportation projects in every corner of the province, spurring economic growth.

Today, we were pleased to announce that we are moving forward on widening Highway 401 from six to 10 lanes between Hespeler Road and Townline Road. Highway 401 is a vital link that gets people where they need to go and essential goods to businesses, families, and communities across the province every single day.

“Highway 401 is a lifeline for travel and the movement of goods throughout our province and that’s why we are making historic investments to expand and modernize it,” said Caroline Mulroney, MPP for York-Simcoe and Minister for Transportation.

“Together with our federal partners, we are investing in these critical infrastructure projects to drive economic growth and create jobs during these extremely difficult times.”

This expansion will relieve congestion, shorten commute times, and improve road safety and the movement of essential goods along Canada’s busiest highway and critical trade corridor. Construction on the project, which includes High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, is expected to begin later this year.

Our PC government is delivering on its promise to build a better transportation system to keep essential goods moving across the province. Widening the highway will improve safety, better connect communities, and support economic growth in the Greater Golden Horseshoe Region.
