Keeping Workers Safe on the Job

Additional health and safety inspectors will help employers comply with workplace laws and keep workers safe during COVID-19

Nothing is more important than protecting the health and safety of Ontario’s workers. That’s why our PC government is launching a recruitment campaign that will increase the number of frontline health and safety inspectors on the ground by almost 100 to ensure workers, their families, and the public will continue to be protected from the spread of COVID-19.

The new inspectors will play a key role in protecting workers by checking and enforcing that workplaces are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Furthermore, inspectors will continue communicating COVID-related guidelines to assist businesses. Recruitment and training will begin this Fall.

“Our government is taking the steps necessary to protect Ontario workers on the job and keep our economy on the road to full recovery,” said Monte McNaughton, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex and Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development. “By adding more inspectors to our team, we can respond faster to situations as they arise and help make sure that every office, plant, store and job site in this province is safe, during COVID-19 and beyond.

With these new hires, there will be more labour inspectors on the ground than ever before in our province’s history, allowing us to better respond to issues at the workplace during COVID-19 and beyond, and help employers keep their workers safe on the job. Our PC government remains laser-focused on ensuring workplaces are safe and will continue to protect the health and safety of Ontario workers.
