Liberal’s Climate Plan Will Make Life More Expensive for Ontarians
QUEEN’S PARK – Today the Premier and her Liberal Government released the full-details of their reckless climate change plan. The plan will require new homes to be net-zero carbon by 2030, which amounts to a poorly spun attempt to eliminate natural gas in the province of Ontario.
“It is practically impossible to heat your home with natural gas and be net zero on emissions – unless you live in the base of a wind turbine,” said Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown during today’s Question Period.
The Ontario PC Caucus supports a practical and realistic plan to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment that will also help to grow our economy, keep hydro bills down, and put money back in the pockets of consumers.
“Ontario’s hydro rates are skyrocketing, forcing many families to turn to natural gas to heat their homes. The Premier’s solution to this? Just raise natural gas prices higher than electricity.”
According to Natural Resources Canada, the average net-zero home costs $150,000 more than the average home.
“A new home? That’ll cost you $150,000 more. To heat that home? That’ll cost you $3,000 more a year,” added Brown. “Where does the Premier expect home buyers to come up with another $150,000? Why does the Premier want to make life more unaffordable for Ontario families and businesses?”
