Making Child Care More Attainable and Affordable

Patrick Brown and the Ontario PCs will pay up to 75% of child care expenses for Ontario families

Today Patrick Brown, Ontario PC Leader, announced that an Ontario PC government will introduce a new Ontario Child Care Refund for up to 75% of child care expenses, or up to $6,750 per child.

“Families in every corner of the province are struggling to find child care. If they can find it, they struggle to pay for it,” said Brown. “Ontario families need relief. The Ontario PCs will make child care more attainable and more affordable.”

Ontario has the highest child care costs in the country. The Ontario Child Care Refund will supplement the current federal Child Care Expense Deduction, which fails to provide substantial relief to lower-income families.

“An Ontario PC government will pay up to three quarters of child care costs for lower-income families,” Brown added. “Under our plan, a single parent who has a child under six and earns less than $35,000 per year will be eligible for a refund of up to $6,750.”

To make child care more attainable, Patrick Brown and the Ontario PCs will build 100,000 new child care spaces.

“The Ontario PCs will deliver much-needed relief to families. This will put money back in the pockets of hardworking families, delivered monthly to those who qualify,” said Brown. “That’s real change that works for families.”

Covering up to 75% of child care costs for Ontario families is one of five key measures included in the Ontario PC Party’s plan to get Ontario back on track, called the People’s Guarantee. Additional measures in the People’s Guarantee include:
  • 22.5% lower income taxes for the middle class
  • 12% more off your hydro bill
  • The largest mental health commitment in Canadian provincial history
  • The first-ever Trust, Integrity and Accountability Act
