MPP Lorne Coe questions the Premier on post-stroke care
QUEEN’S PARK – Today, during Question Period, Lorne Coe, MPP for Whitby-Oshawa, called on the Premier to explain the Liberal Government’s apparent inability to satisfy a commitment made in the House over a year ago.
Mr. Coe spoke to the issue of the failure of the Liberal Government to provide adequate funding for the treatment of adult post-stroke victims who are under the age of sixty-five. He cited the case of local resident Jim McEwen, who has been a champion of changes to the current legislation and regulations.
One year ago, the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Eric Hoskins, was asked by then Whitby-Oshawa MPP, Christine Elliott, to expand the post-stroke recovery services for individuals between the ages of twenty and sixty-four years. At the time, the Minister responded by saying “My ministry, for some time, has been working on the precise issue that she has raised.”
But Mr. Coe reported that over the past year, nothing further has been done and asked, “When will the Premier and her government start to satisfy not only the expectations of Ontario residents, but its actual commitments?”
He concluded by asking the Premier if her failure to implement the improvements was a direct result of her government’s inability to properly manage the health care system.
