MPP SCOTT RE-INTRODUCES THE SAVING THE GIRL NEXT DOOR ACT AT QUEEN’S PARK
“Ontario PC Critic for Women’s Issues, MPP Laurie Scott re-introduced her Saving the Girl Next Door Act on Wednesday, her private members bill that died after the Wynne government’s prorogation two days before the legislature returned for the fall session.
“It’s clear this government is not serious about human sex trafficking legislation when they continue to drive the agenda for their own gain,” Scott stated in question period yesterday.
“Since the Wynne government learned about the prevalence of human sex trafficking almost two years ago through the Select Committee on Sexual Violence and Harassment, no direct legislation has been passed.
“Frontline service providers and workers are exasperated that there is still nothing advancing the law to support them in fighting this horrific crime,” Scott continued.
“Concern through the growing awareness of Ontario’s human sex trafficking problem is spreading throughout the province as more information reaches worried parents and grandparents; while police, victims and service providers continue to come together to share facts and to call for more action.
“Human sex trafficking is becoming one of the fastest growing crimes in Ontario.”
