Only Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs will Build Highway 413

New highway in Greater Toronto Area will reduce gridlock and reduce roundtrip drive times by an hour each day

PEEL REGION, May 4, 2022 – Today, Doug Ford reaffirmed that only a re-elected PC government will build Highway 413 to reduce traffic and gridlock in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

“Only the Ontario PCs have a real plan to build highways for a growing province, including building Highway 413 to fight gridlock and reduce roundtrip commute times by an hour each day,” said Doug Ford. “Andrea Horwath and the NDP are radically opposed to new roads and highways. The Del Duca-Wynne Liberals refused to build the roads and highways Ontario needed, stranding drivers in endless gridlock.”

Steven Del Duca and Andrea Horwath have repeatedly said they will kill Highway 413, leading to more gridlock and longer commutes for drivers in the GTA.

Even as Del Duca and Horwath say ‘no’ to building, the population of the GTA is expected to grow by more than one million people over the next five years, adding hundreds of thousands of new drivers to some of the busiest and most gridlocked roads in North America.

Highway 413 is a new 400-series highway and transit corridor across Halton, Peel, and York Regions. The corridor will be four-to-six lanes wide and extend from Highway 400 in the east to Highway 401 in the west. Once built, Highway 413 will reduce travel times by 30 minutes each way, saving drivers up to one hour per day and five hours per week that is time better spent with family and friends.

“Ontarians are sick of talk and they’re tired of politicians finding any reason to say no,” added Ford. “Ontario drivers can’t afford more time stuck in traffic, they need real action to solve this problem. Only the Ontario PCs will build the 413 and get it done.”

Doug Ford is the only leader with a real plan:

  • Rebuilding Ontario’s economy with good manufacturing jobs, more support for small business and a mining plan that will finally open up the Ring of Fire.
  • Working for workers by encouraging apprenticeships and opening up jobs in the skilled trades, allowing colleges to grant three-year degrees and increasing the minimum wage.
  • Building highways and infrastructure, including Highway 413, the Bradford Bypass while investing in the 401 East
  • Keeping costs down by lowering gas taxes, getting rid of license plate stickers and removing unfair tolls on Highways 412 and 418.
  • Plan to stay open by hiring more nurses, doctors and personal support workers, allowing more seniors to stay in their own homes and producing more vaccines and critical supplies like PPE right here in Ontario.

Only Doug Ford will Get it Done.

Quotes:

“Investing in a resilient, reliable infrastructure plan for our province empowers long-term, good paying jobs for our members across the construction industry and various sectors of the skilled trades portfolio. The proposed Highway 413 would create an estimated 8,000 jobs annually in construction and other related industries and generate up to $2.3 billion of earnings for workers in Ontario while advancing 600 new apprenticeships. Dedicated to all aspects of community building, we commend the leadership of Premier Doug Ford and ongoing commitment to investing in jobs, investing in infrastructure like Highway 413 and investing in a prosperous future for Ontario.”

– Joseph Mancinelli

International Vice President and Regional Manager of Central and Eastern Canada, LiUNA

“We need a transportation corridor like Highway 413 that will serve our growing communities and protect surrounding small rural and green areas. Doug Ford is not afraid to make the right decisions for the future prosperity of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and entire province.”

– Allan Thompson

Mayor of Caledon

“These critical infrastructure investments reflect an understanding that we must start to build the infrastructure of tomorrow, today. The building of Highway 413, the Bradford Bypass, and transit, ensures that the infrastructure needs across the region are addressed and expanded appropriately to lay the foundation for Ontario’s long-term economic development and prosperity.”

– Nadia Todorova

Executive Director, Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario

“As the Toronto region’s leading organization championing business growth and regional competitiveness, the Board is on record supporting Highway 413 as an important new transportation artery, pending all required regulatory approvals.  Congestion costs $11 billion a year in lost productivity to our region’s economy; our existing highway infrastructure is unable to support higher volumes of traffic – despite high growth projected over the next several decades. These transportation routes are part of our critical domestic supply chains, moving goods and people across and beyond our region, which generates over half of Ontario’s GDP. Highways – along with transit upgrades like the region’s rail, LRT, and bus routes – open-up expanded opportunities for housing and employment, both of which are in urgent need.”

Highway 413: Steven Del Duca and Andrea Horwath in their Own Words

Steven Del Duca and Andrea Horwath have made it clear over and over: only Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs will build Highway 413.

The failed Liberal record

When the Ontario Liberals were in power from 2006 to 2016, Ontario’s population grew by nearly 1.3 million people. The Del Duca-Wynne Liberals failed to build then and they refuse to build now.

Here’s Del Duca and the Ontario Liberals in their own words:

Del Duca will “kill [Highway 413] once and for all.” (March 22, 2022)

“An Ontario Liberal government will stop the Ford Conservatives’ Highway 413 on day one.” (April 18, 2022)

The NDP will always say ‘no’

Even with the GTA’s population expected to grow by more than one million people over the next five years, Andrea Horwath and the NDP will always say ‘no’ to building.

Here’s Horwath and the Ontairo NDP in their own words:

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said “there’s no doubt in my mind that Hwy. 413 is the wrong thing to do.” (March 1, 2022)

“There is no reason for that highway to be built and there are many, many reasons for it not to be built.” (March 1, 2022)
