Only Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs Will Protect Windsor’s Economy

PCs building local infrastructure to attract investment and keep workers on the job in the face of President Trump’s tariff threats

Windsor, February 12, 2025 — Today, Ontario PC candidate Prabmeet Sarkaria was in the Windsor area to lay out the Ontario PC plan to protect local workers and invest in infrastructure in the face of President Trump’s tariff threats.

“Over the last seven years, Windsor and Essex have seen remarkable growth and revitalization, which our PC government has been proud to support with record investments,” said Sarkaria. “But with President Trump’s tariffs now looming over everything we’ve built, we need to continue investing to protect our progress. By building new roads, highways and infrastructure in Windsor and Essex, we’re helping secure the new manufacturing jobs that are being created in the region, while keeping workers in our construction and skilled trades sectors on the job.”

The PC plan to protect Ontario would add an additional $22 billion to the province’s plan to build, including $15 billion to speed up major critical infrastructure projects. This would bring the total provincial investment in roads, highways, transit, hospitals, schools and other infrastructure across Ontario to more than $200 billion. This increased investment will help keep workers on the job in the face of President Trump’s tariff threats, which would have a disproportionate impact on sectors like construction and manufacturing.

In Windsor and Essex, a re-elected PC government will prioritize the construction of a new interchange at Banwell Road and E.C. Row Expressway, as well as a new interchange at Highway 401 and the Lauzon Parkway extension that will support trade between the U.S. and Canada. This is in addition to the ongoing work to widen Highway 3 between Essex and Leamington, with shovels now in the ground on the final stage of this project. These critical projects will support the increased traffic anticipated in Windsor, Essex and across southwestern Ontario as a result of the Stellantis and LG Energy Solutions electric vehicle battery plant in Windsor and the Volkswagen electric vehicle battery plant in St. Thomas.

Only Doug Ford has a plan to protect Ontario:

  • Building Ontario’s economy by investing more than $200 billion in our plan to build roads, highways, transit and other infrastructure projects while investing over $2.5 billion to train more than one million people for better jobs and bigger paycheques in the skilled trades.
  • Protecting workers in the face of President Trump’s tariffs by doing whatever is necessary to protect people’s livelihoods, including by investing tens of billions of dollars to keep people working.
  • Keeping us competitive by fighting the job-killing Liberal carbon tax and urging the federal government to cut red tape and streamline approvals to get big things built.
  • Cleaning up our streets by protecting families and children by banning drug injection sites near schools and daycares and clearing out encampments from public parks with new investments in shelters.
  • Delivering better care, including by investing $1.8 billion more to connect everyone in Ontario to a family doctor and primary care.

Doug Ford will never stop working to protect Ontario.
