Only Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs Will Protect Workers by Building Roads and Highways in Ottawa

Ontario PCs will build on New Deal with Ottawa to protect local workers and build infrastructure

Ottawa, January 30, 2025 — Today, Ontario PC candidate Prabmeet Sarkaria was in Ottawa to
lay out the Ontario PC plan to protect Ontario by building local roads and highways, creating
new jobs and opportunities for Ottawa workers in the face of President Trump’s tariff threats.
Building on the Ottawa New Deal, this plan includes uploading Highway 174 to the province and
continuing to invest in its improvement.

“Our investments in local roads and highways through our New Deal with Ottawa are helping to
protect Ontario by creating new jobs for workers,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria. “With President
Trump’s tariffs threatening Ontario workers, investments in infrastructure that keep workers on
the job are more important than ever. A re-elected PC government will make the investments in
local infrastructure projects that keep people working, including right here in Ottawa.”

The Ontario PCs are investing nearly $200 billion in infrastructure across the province as part of
the largest infrastructure plan in Canadian history. These projects are helping to create jobs in
sectors that are particularly exposed to President Trump’s tariff threats, including construction.

By following through on these investments and taking over ownership and maintenance of
Highway 174, the Ontario PCs are building the roads and highways needed to support Ottawa’s
growth and keep people working.

The New Deal with Ottawa includes nearly $350 million for local infrastructure, including:

  • $56 million to upgrade and repair Highway 174 prior to it being uploaded to the province.
  • $50 million to upgrade rural roads and highways outside the downtown core.
  • More than $50 million to design and build a new interchange at Highway 416 and
  • Barnsdale Road.
  • $80 million to support the Kanata North Transitway.

Only Doug Ford has a plan to protect Ontario:

  • Building Ontario’s economy by investing more than $200 billion in our plan to build roads,
highways, transit and other infrastructure projects while investing over $2.5 billion to train
more than one million people for better jobs and bigger paycheques in the skilled trades.
  • Protecting workers in the face of President Trump’s tariffs by doing whatever is
necessary to protect people’s livelihoods, including by investing tens of billions of dollars
    to keep people working.
  • Keeping us competitive by fighting the job-killing Liberal carbon tax and urging the
federal government to cut red tape and streamline approvals to get big things built.
  • Cleaning up our streets by protecting families and children by banning drug injection
sites near schools and daycares and clearing out encampments from public parks with
    new investments in shelters.
  • Delivering better care, including by investing over $1 billion more to connect everyone
in Ontario to a family doctor and primary care.

Doug Ford will never stop working to protect Ontario.
