Ontario Liberal Government Refuses to Take Responsibility for Fifth OPP Investigation
QUEEN’S PARK – With the Premier’s Office again under the cloud of a police investigation, Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown used today’s Question Period to ask the Premier about the unprecedented fifth OPP investigation into her Liberal Government.
The OPP is investigating allegations raised by Trillium Power Energy Corp., surrounding the alleged deletion of documents related to the cancellation of an offshore wind project and the corresponding lawsuit.
“Trillium’s lawsuit raises the concern that the Liberals didn’t just delete evidence of the gas plant scandal, but they also could have deleted evidence of their cancellation of the offshore wind program,” said Brown. “They could be key pieces of evidence in Trillium’s lawsuit. And if Trillium wins in court, the people of Ontario could be on the hook for $500 million.”
The OPP has previously investigated the Premier’s Office into the deletion of e-mails surrounding the gas plants scandal, which resulted in two senior Liberal staffers being charged. The Government has also been under investigation for the Ornge Air Ambulance scandal, as well as two separate police investigations surrounding the Sudbury by-election scandal.
“How has the Premier allowed 5 OPP investigations to take place under her watch, and not have a single Minister or staff member take responsibility?” concluded Brown. “Is this a government that only cares about their own political survival?”
