Ontario PC Candidate Lorne Coe Discusses Preventative Care and Lung Health at the Abilities Centre

WHITBY – This morning, Ontario PC Candidate Lorne Coe met with members of the Ontario Lung Association and the Abilities Centre to discuss the Fitness for Breath Exercise Program, a partnership between the two groups.
Fitness for Breath introduces basic movement skills to adults 55 and older with chronic lung disease. The program helps participants to understand the importance of staying active and the health benefits of exercise.

“Cardiovascular exercise is essential for strengthening the lungs of people with chronic lung disease, yet these individuals often feel that their disease prevents them from participating in regular fitness activities,” said Lorne Coe. “This program understands the importance of preventative health care to help keep our aging population healthy and out of the hospital. By taking into account the unique needs and abilities of people living with chronic lung disease, participants show marked improvements to their ability to manage their disease, helping to improve their quality of life.”
Lorne Coe also had the opportunity to tour the Abilities Centre. Founded by the late Jim Flaherty and former Whitby-Oshawa MPP Christine Elliott, the Abilities Centre is a world class recreation, athletic and performing arts facility fully accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
“Partnering with the Abilities Centre to offer this program speaks to the principles of participation and inclusion that the Centre embodies,” Coe continued. “I am so proud to live in a riding with a dedicated centre where everyone has their needs considered and feels welcomed, regardless of ability.”
