The Ontario PC government is taking bold action to grow our health-care workforce and improve access to care across the province.
That’s why we’re investing over $4.2 million to expand nursing education and accelerate training for future nurses—ensuring more skilled professionals are ready to serve communities across Ontario, faster.
To strengthen care in northern and rural communities, we’re also investing nearly $1.5 million to expand nursing program capacity at Confederation College in Thunder Bay and Cambrian College in Sudbury. This funding will add 50 new registered practical nursing (RPN) seats at Confederation and 17 at Cambrian—creating new clinical placement opportunities in the North.
Ontario is also leading the country by becoming the first jurisdiction in Canada to integrate RN prescribing education into undergraduate nursing programs. A new $750,000 investment will support this initiative at the University of Windsor, Georgian College, and Humber Polytechnic, giving nurses more tools to support patients by safely prescribing medication.
These investments build on our government’s broader health-care strategy and are part of a multi-year effort to recruit, retain, and train more health professionals across Ontario.
