Ontario PC Government Partners with Manitoba to Break Down Barriers to Interprovincial Trade

To reduce the effects of U.S. tariffs on our province and country, Ontario has partnered with Manitoba to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that removes trade barriers between the two provinces. Building on previous MOUs with Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, this latest MOU reinforces the launch of the Protect Ontario Through Free Trade Within Canada Act, legislation aimed at eliminating obstacles to the free movement of goods and workers across provincial borders.

This agreement will help lower costs, provide economic relief for families and businesses in Ontario and Manitoba, and deliver benefits across the country. It’s estimated that reducing internal trade barriers could add an additional $200 billion to Canada’s GDP, strengthening our economy and making it more resilient.

The Ontario PC government is also continuing to work with the federal government to remove internal trade barriers nationwide and is calling for swift approval and funding for nation-building projects like new pipelines, airports, seaports, and railways.

By working together, we can unlock the full potential of our national economy and bring Canadians closer than ever before.
