Ontario PCs Deliver Historic Investment to Build “Destination Wasaga”

The Ontario PC government is making a historic investment of nearly $38 million to transform Wasaga Beach into a world-class, year-round tourism destination — Destination Wasaga. This bold initiative will breathe new life into the community by revitalizing the beachfront, protecting local heritage, and driving economic growth throughout Simcoe County.

This initiative, supported through the 2025 Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario, includes:

  • $25 million to redevelop the Nancy Island Historic Site, preserving a national treasure from the War of 1812 and transferring its oversight to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming
  • Almost $11 million through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program to upgrade roadways, improve access to tourism areas, and support over 3,000 new homes
  • $2 million to support local tourism planning and downtown revitalization

As part of this initiative, the Ontario PC government will also begin transferring a portion of the provincially owned beachfront to the Town of Wasaga Beach. This transfer, contingent on the beachfront remaining open and publicly accessible, will empower the community to fully integrate it into its long-term tourism vision.

This investment is part of our plan to protect Ontario’s heritage, support local workers and businesses, and build a stronger economy for the future.
