Ontario PCs Move Forward with Hamilton LRT to Build a Stronger, More Connected City

The Ontario PC government is taking the next major step in delivering the Hamilton Light Rail Transit (LRT) project by issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the main package of civil and utility work.

In partnership with the federal government, we’re investing nearly $3.4 billion to build this vital transit line—part of our broader commitment to expand infrastructure, reduce gridlock, and connect people to jobs, housing, and opportunity.

Once complete, the Hamilton LRT will link 17 stations across the city, providing faster, more reliable service for more than 50,000 daily riders. It will enhance connections to the Hamilton Street Railway and GO Transit, making over 10,000 local jobs easier to reach and supporting the city’s continued growth.

Hamilton is one of Ontario’s fastest-growing urban centres, and modern transit is essential to keeping it competitive. That’s why this project is part of our historic, nearly $70 billion investment in public transit across the province over the next 10 years—delivering real results for families, workers, and communities.
