Ontario’s PC Government Taking Action to Protect Workers on Construction Sites

To create safer workplaces for construction workers, the Ontario PC government is introducing first-in-Canada measures to make construction sites safer for workers across the province.

As part of this initiative, construction sites expected to have 20 or more workers and operate for at least three months will be required to have automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) on-site. This new requirement builds on previous workplace reforms that mandated naloxone kits in high-risk workplaces.

Cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death on the job. AEDs play a critical role in saving lives—when used with CPR within the first few minutes of cardiac arrest, they can increase survival rates by more than 50 percent.

This new requirement will help protect our province’s workforce and prevent avoidable tragedies.
