Patrick Brown and Raymond Cho Tour Scarborough Business Hurt by Wynne Liberal Hydro Rates
SCARBOROUGH – Today, Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown and Ontario PC Scarborough-Rouge River candidate Raymond Cho toured the Metro Golf Dome in Scarborough.
During the tour, the Metro Golf Dome’s General Manager Jim Tasakalos highlighted the impact of skyrocketing hydro rates on the business. In the last year the business’ hydro bills have increased by approximately $1,000 a month.
“What we saw at the Metro Golf Dome is proof that under the Wynne Liberals hydro rates are out of control. This is affecting our community’s job-creators and our community’s families alike,” said Raymond Cho following the tour. “When I go door-to-door in the riding, the Government’s mishandling of the energy sector is by far one of the biggest concerns of voters.”
Ontario has the highest and fastest increasing industrial electricity rates in North America. According to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, one in twenty businesses in the province will either shut their doors or move to another jurisdiction in the coming years due to rising rates.
Since the Liberal Government was first elected, hydro rates for the average household have increased by more than $1,000 a year.
“There’s a reason the Wynne Liberals don’t want to talk about hydro rates. Their waste and mismanagement, is directly responsible for the rate increases that the people of Scarborough have been forced to endure,” added Brown. “Businesses and families are struggling to keep the lights on. It is clear that life is harder under the Wynne Liberals.”
