Premier Wynne Continues to Refuse Calls for Public Inquiry into Fundraising
QUEEN’S PARK – Following yesterday’s meeting with the Premier to discuss reforms to political fundraising rules, Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown expressed his disappointment that the Liberals continue to refuse his calls for a public inquiry into the Government’s fundraising practices.
“I am very disappointed with my meeting yesterday. The meeting was a sham. A Liberal PR stunt,” said Brown. “We will not back down. We will not be bullied into dropping our request for a public inquiry.”
During yesterday’s meeting, the Premier asked the Leader of the Official Opposition if he planned on continuing to call for a public inquiry despite the Official Opposition providing a number of examples of Liberal donors who have also received lucrative Government contracts and grants or favourable policy changes.
“Yesterday the Premier claimed that political donations have never bought a policy in her government,” Brown added. “This comes despite numerous examples that are causing the public to question her government’s integrity.”
“How many times do I have to give examples of questionable dealings before the Premier supports our call for a public inquiry into her party’s political fundraising?”
