Licensed child care workers across Ontario eligible to book vaccine appointments this week

The efforts of child care leaders, educators, and staff have been instrumental in helping to keep children safe and families supported. We are taking further action to support these critical frontline workers and their families by expanding vaccination eligibility.

Today, our PC government announced that as of Thursday, April 29, 2021, licensed child care workers will be eligible to book a vaccine appointment — which will further protect families and these key workers across Ontario. This eligibility complements the availability of vaccines across the province for those 40+ as well as in pop-up clinics hosted by Public Health Units in hot spot regions.

The following child care workers will be eligible:

  • Licensees, employees and students (18+) on an educational placement who interact directly with children in licensed child care centres and in authorized recreation and skill building programs.
  • Licensed home child care and in-home service providers, employees of a home child care agency and students (18+) on an educational placement who interact directly with children in a licensed home child care setting.

We are grateful for the hard work of our child care providers who are providing critically needed emergency childcare services, with a record number of people taking advantage of this important service.

Our child care centres are safe and the expansion of vaccines will further protect children and staff.
