“Taiwan has once again demonstrated its commitment to freedom and democracy with the orderly conduct in the recent presidential and parliamentary elections‎.

I congratulate the people of Taiwan for respecting the democratic process and welcome the election of Taiwan’s first female president, Dr. Tsai Ing-wen.

Having visited Taiwan and met with Canadians of Taiwanese heritage, I know that Ontario benefits both culturally and economically from this diversity. I am especially proud that Oxford County is twinned with Tamsui, Taiwan, a fitting testament to the lasting legacy of Dr. George Leslie Mackay.”
