Statement from Ontario PC Caucus on Mental Health Week
The following is a statement from Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown and Ontario PC Health Critic MPP Jeff Yurek on Mental Health Week:
“This week marks Mental Health Week, an opportunity to raise awareness about mental health issues and end the surrounding stigma. Mental health issues and physical health issues are equally important; unfortunately they are often not treated as such.
It is estimated that mental illness affects one in five Canadians, many of whom are afraid or uncomfortable discussing and sharing their struggles and personal challenges. Speaking out is never easy. Initiatives such as Mental Health Week help foster the conversations which allow people to feel comfortable reaching out for assistance.
Not just this week, but every week, let’s all extend a helping hand to anyone who may need assistance, and let everyone know that there are people available to talk if need be. Nobody should suffer in silence.
Finally, we’d like to use this opportunity to commend the numerous organizations and front-line workers who work tirelessly to spread awareness and services each and every day. Their selflessness and generosity is greatly appreciated.”
