Statement from Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford on Dutch Heritage Month

“Today we come together with the Dutch-Canadian community to recognize the 7th Annual Dutch Heritage Month.

“It is a month to celebrate independence and liberty, highlighted by the Dutch Liberation Day, celebrated Annually on May 5th. It represents the end of the occupation of the Netherlands after the Second World War. It is also a celebration of Canadian spirit; a day of commemoration and remembrance in honour of the heroic efforts made by the Canadian Forces during the war.

“The Dutch community, of over 500,000 people in Ontario, continues to make significant contributions to the political, economic, social, and cultural fabric of this province. I hope that all Ontarians can take a moment to learn more about the important role that the Dutch community plays in our society.

“The Ontario PC Party shares many of the same values as the Dutch community; principles such as faith, family, hard work, and a respect for cultural heritage and traditions.

“On behalf of the Ontario PC Party, I would like to wish all those of Dutch descent a happy Dutch Heritage Month.”
