Statement from Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown Celebrating Ukraine’s Independence Day

“I am pleased to extend my best wishes to Ontario’s Ukrainian community as we celebrate the 26th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

Canada is home to nearly 1.3 million Canadians of Ukrainian heritage with close to one-third calling Ontario their home. Ontario’s vibrant Ukrainian community has contributed immeasurably to our province and our country. They have played an important role in building our prosperous and pluralistic society.

We are reminded that the path to Ukraine’s independence and freedom has not been easy. When tested with aggression, Ukrainians have continued to show tremendous strength, courage and determination. I could not have been more proud that Canada was the first country to recognize Ukraine’s sovereignty in 1991. Since then, Canada and Ukraine continue to have an incredibly strong and enduring friendship.

As we celebrate this special occasion, we continue to stand united with the Ukrainian community and reaffirm our support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

On behalf of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Caucus, Happy Ukrainian Independence Day! Slava Ukraini!”
