Strengthening Student Learning and Increasing Access to Child Care

Building and Expanding Schools Across Ontario

Our children’s education is one of our PC government’s top priorities. That’s why we’re investing over $500 million to build 30 more schools and make permanent additions to 15 existing facilities, as well as generating nearly 900 new licensed childcare spaces.

This investment will support over 25,000 student spaces and ensure families across the province are able to access childcare in their communities.

“Our government is making a significant capital investment in our school system,” said Doug Ford, MPP for Etobicoke North and Premier of Ontario. “By making these smart investments today, we will ensure our students and teachers have access to modern facilities to learn with features like high-speed Internet, accessible ramps and elevators, and air conditioning, while providing parents with access to more licensed child care spaces.”

Our government is committing over $12 billion in capital grants over 10 years, including over $500 million in the 2019-20 school year alone to support large-scale school-based capital projects including new childcare spaces. This year’s investments will fund new schools and additions to address accommodation pressures, support school consolidations, replace schools in poor condition, provide accommodation to French language students and expand licensed childcare availability in schools.
