Supporting Local Firefighters

Ontario’s PC Government for the People is taking action to protect communities and to address two critical issues in Ontario’s firefighting sector: fairness for professional firefighters; and the efficiency of the interest arbitration system.

Back in November last year we made effective changes to “Double Hatting” program, this practice allows full-time firefighters to act as a volunteer firefighter when necessary.

“Most municipalities cannot afford 100 percent full-time firefighters. In fact, 60 percent of firefighters in Ontario are volunteers.” Said MPP Laurie Scott.
