Taking Action to Combat Antisemitism in Schools Across Ontario

All students deserve the opportunity to learn free of hate and discrimination.

That is why, under the leadership of Premier Ford, the PC government is taking action to end discrimination and prejudice in schools across Ontario.

As part of the Safe Return to Class Fund, the PC government is partnering with the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies to strengthen training for educators and student supports to combat anti-Jewish hate from our schools and communities.

“Antisemitism is a scourge and historic evil that must be eradicated from our schools and from our communities,” said Stephen Lecce, MPP for King-Vaughan and Minister of Education.

Statistics Canada says there were 296 police-reported incidents targeting Jewish people in 2019. Antisemitism, discrimination, and hatred directed against people because they are Jewish is unacceptable. Yet, it is disturbingly on the rise in Canada and around the world.

These initiatives will help ensure students learn in more inclusive classrooms and are supported by their educators and communities.

The PC government stands firmly against all forms of religious and racial discrimination and intolerance. There is much more to do and will be done to decisively combat hatred in all of its forms.
