Whitby-Oshawa MPP Lorne Coe Named Ontario PC Critic for Training, Colleges and Universities

QUEEN’S PARK – Today, the Ontario PC Caucus officially named newly-elected Whitby-Oshawa MPP Lorne Coe as the Ontario PC Critic for Training, Colleges and Universities. The portfolio was previously held by Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown who will be continuing his role as Education Critic.

“When I took on the role as Critic for Education and Training, Colleges and Universities, it was because I recognized the fundamental role they play in shaping Ontario’s future success.” said Leader Patrick Brown. “Working with MPP Coe on the by-election campaign I saw first-hand his passion for education issues. He fervently believes that the choices we make in how we educate our young adults is what will return Ontario as Canada’s economic engine, and he will devote himself entirely to this portfolio.”
Lorne Coe will work very closely with the Ontario PC Leader and the Chief Education Advisor and past-TCU critic Garfield Dunlop on issues such as the skills gap which is costing Ontario’s economy $24.3 billion a year and $3.7 billion in foregone tax revenue.
“I am looking forward to getting down to work, ensuring Ontario’s Training, Colleges and Universities graduate people for the jobs of the future,” stated MPP Coe. “Employers shouldn’t have to search beyond Ontario’s borders to find the right candidate for the job, and young people shouldn’t have to leave Ontario to find work.”
“This portfolio will also allow me to better serve my constituents and the people of Durham Region,” MPP Coe concluded. “The region is home to Durham College, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), and Trent University’s Durham campus.”
