Why do the Del Duca-Wynne Liberals love road tolls so much?

Which road or highway will they toll next?

TORONTO, May 5, 2022 –  The Del Duca-Wynne Liberals loved road tolls and making life more expensive for drivers.

This week Steven Del Duca was asked point blank if he would introduce new road tolls. He refused to answer.

They put tolls on the Highway 412 and 418 and tried to quietly add tolls on the Gardiner and the Don Valley Parkway (DVP).

As Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca used to say the tolls on Highway 412 and 418 “will never be lifted.”

Now they are running a slate of candidates who cheer for even more road tolls on Ontario roads and highways to punish hard-working Ontarians driving to work and parents driving their kids to hockey practice.

As a city councillor in Ottawa, Stephen Blais – the Liberal candidate in Orleans – tried to put brand new road tolls on Highway 174. He complained that municipalities could not impose their own toll taxes and if he is a government MPP there is no doubt he will try and give them that power.

Mary Margaret McMahon – the Liberal candidate in Beaches-East York – described herself as a “big believer in road tolls” and said that she has “always been a BIG supporter of Road Tolls.” As a Toronto City Councillor, she voted to put new toll taxes on the Gardiner and DVP.

Noel Semple – the Liberal candidate in Etobicoke Centre – thinks there is a compelling case for road tolls and that they “would make getting around easier for everyone. To add to the pain drivers would feel, he also thinks that even higher gas taxes are “helpful.”

Mitzie Hunter – the Liberal candidate in Scarborough-Guildwood – has posted about her support of road tolls.  While at Toronto’s CivicAction Alliance, Mitzie Hunter pushed supporters to sign a pledge supporting 11 new revenue tools and taxes, including new road tolls, a regional sales tax, and a parking levy.

Karim Bardeesy – the Liberal candidate in Parkdale-High Park – has praised road tolls and described them as the “elephant in room” when it comes to generating revenues for municipalities. He knows they are not popular. But, if elected in a Del Duca-Wynne Government, he will happily bring them to the top of the agenda.

We know the Del Duca-Wynne Liberals will bring back tolls to Highway 412 and 418, but the people of Ontario deserve to know:

What roads and highways will the Del Duca-Wynne Liberals and their team of toll loving candidates tax next?
