Wynne Liberals still unclear on plans for LCBO stores
QUEEN’S PARK – The Wynne government is retreating in several different directions after a document exposed LCBO plans to sell 250 store locations, Ontario PC Finance Critic Vic Fedeli charged today.
“Yesterday, we provided details of the LCBO document that states – and I quote — ‘the LCBO’s main intention is to sell properties,’” Fedeli repeated during Question Period.
Fedeli noted the government’s response yesterday was nothing short of a Keystone Cops episode, with the Premier stating they’d only sell “as needed”, the Finance Minister telling media we’re selling but leasing back, and the Infrastructure Minister stating no stores will be sold.
“All three contradict what’s in the exact document. Let’s face it, Speaker – they got caught again!” Fedeli continued.
“Speaker, this government is in complete disarray! Why should Ontarians trust them to do anything when they can’t get their stories straight?
Fedeli read further from the document, noting the real estate vendor the LCBO is seeking would “determine the highest and best use of any properties”, “perform credit checks on potential tenants” and “coordinate all related activity with the tenant including move-in.”
“They can say all they want about their plans now – and we’ve heard a few versions as you’ve seen — but this document proves what they were planning to do,” said Fedeli.
“Will the Premier admit today that her government got caught again trying to sell LCBO stores to bring in one-time cash to make the deficit look smaller in advance of the next election?”
