George’s family roots began in Porcupine over 100 years ago, giving him a complete understanding of the rich, cultural mosaic of Timmins and the challenges communities face.
As Mayor, George has been working tirelessly to keep the people of Timmins safe and is currently overseeing the largest mining boom in fifty years. Prior to entering municipal politics, George was a senior mining executive for over thirty-five years, including being the President and CEO of Placer Dome Canada, President and CEO of Breakwater Resources, and President and CEO of San Gold Inc.
“Doug Ford and the entire PC team have delivered incredible leadership under the most challenging circumstances in close to a century,” said George Pirie. “I am proud to stand alongside them as your PC candidate to change the trajectory of Northern Ontario for all citizens. We need a new voice at Queen’s Park for the people of Timmins.”
George has volunteered and has been involved in many community initiatives, leading campaigns for the local United Way, serving on the hospital board, as well as being a governor at Northern College for six years, including Chairman of the Board for his last two years as Mayor.
George is a graduate of Laurentian University and is happily married with two children and three grandchildren.
